J.Leah Kim

Prior to being a licensed (NY & NJ) and national board certified (NCCAOM) acupuncturist and herbalist, Leah graduated from the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design and pursued a career in the design industry. Drawn to pattern, phenomenon and paradox in both art and nature, Leah set out to unite her artistic roots with her innate interest in the natural sciences, in the form of Oriental Medicine.

Leah graduated in 2007 from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine with a Master of Science. She spent an additional 10 years furthering her knowledge and skills with her Mentor and teacher- Mr. Son Jong Kim, L. Ac.

Under his guidance, she studied styles including Master Tung, Sa-Am (Korean four point), Ho Il Chim as well as SaSang Constitutional Medicine and Korean Herbal Medicine.

While working as an acupuncturist at Morristown Memorial Hospital and Summit Overlook Hospital in NJ, Leah realized she wanted to create a practice that synergized Eastern and Western healing philosophies and perspectives.

She wanted to translate the robust theoretical language and practice of eastern medicine and combine newer medical and scientific language and discoveries into a profound understanding of healing for herself and her patients.

She trained in Trigger Point Needling, NeuroFunctional Acupuncture, Neuropuncture and Electro-Acupuncture Medicine. She incorporates Dynamic cupping techniques- both traditional and newer forms. She is certified in MyoFascial Decompression (MFD) Cup Therapy and Advanced MFD. She combines newer perspectives of acupuncture meridian theory with the thousands of years old traditional perspectives to create a well rounded treatment.

Leah’s knowledge of bodywork include Tui Na and Shiatsu/Amma therapy and myofascial techniques. Leah’s teacher Mr. Kim suggested she further her subtle palpation skills and thus her interest in Craniosacral therapy began. She continues her learning of Craniosacral Therapy with the Upledger Institute, following the works of Dr. John E. Upledger. She also is currently studying CranioSacral Integration, following the works of osteopath-Hugh Milne with her dear friend and Colleague- Annette Joubert, LMT, MLD/C .

Women’s health and well-being is at the center of Leah’s practice with a focus on fertility, pregnancy, labor, delivery and postpartum care.

Leah Helps create a wellness mentality around the idea of motherhood- mind/ body/spirit to better serve her patients, channeling Reiki energy into her sessions, for the couples the fertility journey. Practicing acupuncture and herbal medicine, leah supports both natural conception and IVF conception.

She is a trained Doula who studied with Debra Pascali-Bonaro, CD(DONA) and has completed the highest level of training in acupuncture during labor and delivery with Dr. Claudia Citkovitz, Ph.D. L.Ac. 

She is also a Level 1 Restorative Yoga Instructor, studied with the renowned Dr. Judith Hanson Lasater, Ph.D., PT. and currently finishing a 75hr prenatal yoga training for professional birth specialists with yoga therapist- Juliana Mitchell, RY500, Yoga therspist.

She uses restorative positions to help expectant mothers and laboring mothers and their partners, find supported rest and relaxation when needed.

Leah is also a certified educator of Infant massage and pediatric Tui Na techniques (asian bodywork) and helps her mother and partners during the postpardum months to connect and enhance babies immune system and well being through gentle loving touch.

Leah also works closely with Stacey Futterman-Tauriello, a Pelvic floor PT at 5 Point Wellness center as well as pelvic rehab physicians and other pelvic floor Therapists providing pain management and wellness treatments.

Leah has practiced Tai chi with Judith Rew of Montclair Tai Chi and is currently cultivating Taoist Qi Gong breathe work taught by Sifu Sat Chuen Hon of NYC.

Her deepest wish is to bring artistry to a lifestyle of wellness and healing.
